Redesigning a School Environment for Informal Learning
This project explores the redesign of a school space in Lisbon, focusing on creating a more welcoming, flexible, and engaging environment that supports collaborative and interdisciplinary learning.
Problem
The existing space had a rigid layout and lacked identity, resulting in limited use and low student engagement.It did not support informal learning or interaction, and its atmosphere felt uninviting and disconnected from students’ needs.
Goal
Create a more welcoming and accessible environment;
Encourage informal and collaborative learning;
Introduce flexibility in how the space is used;
Increase student engagement and sense of ownership.
Concept
The project proposes a hybrid space between a classroom and an informal learning area, where students can choose how they interact, learn, and occupy the space.
By introducing softer materials and a more relaxed spatial language, the design aims to create a sense of comfort, encouraging longer use and more spontaneous interaction.

Final Solution
The use of an open layout was intended to break away from traditional classroom structures, encouraging movement, interaction and flexible use of space.
Materials such as synthetic grass and wood were introduced to create a more informal and approachable atmosphere, promoting comfort and longer engagement with the space.
Impact / Reflection
This project addresses the need to rethink traditional educational environments by proposing a more user-centered approach.
By introducing flexibility, comfort, and informality, the space encourages new ways of learning and interacting.
It highlights the role of design in shaping behavior and improving everyday experiences within educational contexts.

Espaços de Educação
Desenvolvi em parceria com uma escola em Lisboa este projeto. Tinha como objetivo criar um ambiente para os alunos mais acolhedor e desafiante, baseado em três conceitos diferentes — Design, Espaços de Educação e Interdisciplinaridade. O espaço foi assim
