The goal was to redesign a corkscrew, whether it was esthetically or mechanically. The objective was to explore different ways of removing a cork from a wine bottle. For that, analyzing what's already on the market was imperative. Apart from knowing about the different types of corkscrews, how each one worked was also studied for a better understanding of the objects.

HOW TO USE

Corkscrew Redesign

  • First pull both pieces apart and insert the corkscrew on the bottleneck
  • Turn the handle down to pinch the cork
  • Pull the lever several times until a relieve in the pressure is felt
  • Remove the corkscrew from the bottle
  • Turn the handle until the cork is removed

DETAILS AND INTERIOR CROSS-SECTION

In the cross-section it is possible to observe how the different pieces come together and how the racket gear blocks the handle from exercising pressure when turning one way, but not the other.

VERSION 2

Corkscrew Redesign

The second project consists in keeping the same idea of how to remove a cork, but changing the approach of how to do it. In this particular case, there is only one handle with a button to change the direction in which the spiral goes, either up or down. It's the same approach as the previous version but all the force is applied on the same location.
